Bryan Payne is a partner at Robins Cloud LLP, where he represents clients in personal injury and wrongful death litigation. He approaches every case with great determination, focus, and empathy, as he remains committed to providing client-centered, solution-oriented legal counsel. Even when confronting large corporations with seemingly unlimited resources, he provides the necessary expertise to vigorously pursue justice for his clients.
Bryan started out his career as a Legislative Assistant and Speech Writer for a member of Congress. He wrote on issues ranging from health care and education to crime, to budget, to economic development, and more. It was here that the practice of law drew him in: He saw how laws were created and realized that many people were unaware of their legal rights. People needed someone who could not only educate them about their rights, but who could also work to protect those rights—Bryan strived to become the lawyer who could fill that role.
Once he earned his law degree, Bryan began representing those injured by negligence. He took on cigarette manufacturers for intentionally misleading the American public about the harmful and addictive effects of smoking. This historic litigation concluded with multimillion-dollar verdicts in favor of those harmed. He also recovered over $50 million in damages for catastrophic injury victims.
Years ago, Bryan underwent a fusion surgery of the cervical spine. This experience enables him to empathize with his clients, a large percentage of whom have undergone similar procedures. He brings empathy and compassion to every case he takes on by putting himself in his clients’ shoes to better understand them. He takes time to listen and address their questions, concerns, and hopes.
Bryan also utilizes his listening skills to strengthen his clients’ cases. He listens to experts, to courts, and even to the defense to find the best path to justice and compensation. His thirst for analyzing both the facts and the law is what makes him great at his job; he is able to advocate for clients intelligently, forcefully, and creatively.
Bryan was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. He attended high school in the Pacific Palisades, then earned his bachelor’s from UC Berkeley and his master’s from the University of Southern California. He received his J.D. from New York University School of Law.
When Bryan is not in the office, he can be found playing tennis with his four children. His youngest child plays club soccer, and he enjoys spending time with her traveling to and from competitions. He also participates in community service efforts with his youngest son, who is aiming to become an Eagle Scout. Together, they participate in community clean-ups (including of the LA River), volunteer at shelters for single mothers and children, and put together care packages for LA’s homeless population.
